Interactive Journaling for Adult Felony Drug Courts

Interactive Journaling®: An evidence-based pathway to change. Research has revealed that structured journaling can improve overall health and well-being. Whether grappling with substance abuse dependence, the stress of a career or the loss of freedom that comes with incarceration, journaling has proven to be an effective tool in helping individuals cope with challenging situations. The power of writing is that the process is immediately personal and relevant. Individuals can map out where they have been, where they are today and where they wish to go.

Building upon a body of journaling research, internal studies, and evidence-based behavioral change approaches, The Change Companies® has developed a process called Interactive Journaling®, which is a guided journaling experience that assists individuals in making life changes.

CACJ has planned to sponsor a training for 20 adult drug court counselors/treatment providers.

The CACJ Training MOU is required to register for this training.

START Assessment Training

Foundational training in the Short-Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START)

The Short-Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START) is a 20-item clinical guide for the dynamic assessment of seven risk domains. START represents a refinement in the assessment of risk in that it provides for the differential coding of both client strengths and vulnerabilities while allowing for the recording of case-specific factors. START guides clinicians toward an integrated, balanced opinion to evaluate the client’s risk across multiple domains and to guide treatment and management decisions.

This training will review the literature that bears on the development of START and supports its utility as a clinical evaluation and planning guide and as a research tool.  The development, design, format, and implementation of START will be described and results from existing and ongoing research presented. This training focuses on how START can inform decision-making regarding internalized and externalized aggression, as well as other risks relevant to maintaining staff and client safety.

At the conclusion of the training, attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and can submit that certificate to their respective licensing boards for CE hours/units consideration.

Registration has ended.
